Successful anniversary year for Dr. Schneider


The Dr. Schneider Unternehmensgruppe, privileged to celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2017, was also able to continue its positive business development last year.

Kronach-Neuses. A successful anniversary year for the Dr. Schneider Unternehmensgruppe: The automotive supplier from Upper Franconia was able to continue its positive development in 2017. "As a family company deeply rooted in the region, we consider quality to be more important than quantity when it comes to growth", emphasized CEO Parag Shah, at the yearly press conference in early May. Last business year, the company posted sales of 517 million Euros. Half the sales were generated in Germany, another 34 percent in Europe and 16 percent in the USA and China.

An important course has already been charted for the coming years. "Automotive trends such as autonomous driving, e-mobility and individualizing vehicles offer us the best chances of development", underlines Shah. "We are actively facing the changes in the automotive industry and are well prepared for the challenges that the mobility of the future with our range of innovative products that make the car interior more attractive and functional." With its new slogan "Focus on Excellence", superseding the old "Excellence in Plastics" slogan, the automotive supplier is clearly stating that it not only manufactures technologically demanding plastic products, but can also score with its competence in the field of electronics.

In order to develop its technological know-how even more, the company plans to invest approx. 57 million Euros in the year 2018. In addition to completing the shell structure for the new Technology and Process Center at the main plant in Kronach-Neuses, production plants all over the world are also set to be pushed ahead. Plus, investments are being made into new technologies and a machine pool since a number of new projects are about to go into series at the seven international production plants. Part of investment is also earmarked for the introduction of SAP/ S/4 HANA across the company to support the digital transformation. Ongoing replacement investments in the plants of German and Spain are included in this plan as well. Approx. 65 percent of the overall investments will be made at German locations.

The number of employees also continued to grow last year. Currently, more than 4,000 employees work for the Dr. Schneider Unternehmensgruppe worldwide. Half of them are employed at German locations. To remedy the problem of skilled labor shortage, the family company keeps relying on the individual development of its own employees and thus recruits from their own labor force. Currently training 163 young apprentices at their German locations, makes the automotive supplier one of the biggest training companies in it’s home county. "We are proud we are able to train so many young people and to have the opportunity to assume responsibility for our region", stresses Wilhelm Wirth, responsible for the business side in the management team, and underlines: "Developing our employees is a matter truly dear to our hearts."

The automotive supplier that places great value in growing under its own steam – and doing so responsibly and reasonably, looks to the future with great optimism: "We anticipate a stable business development all the way to the year 2020 based on the market development of our customers", says Wirth. In this case, Dr. Schneider is benefiting from the positive trend in the automotive business worldwide.
